Spring? What do you mean it’s Spring already? It seems it was only yesterday that Danny was packing his bags to spend the Winter in San Francisco, as usual – and I find he’s back in Asturias already!
I have also realized that it’s been one year since we’ve been promising a new album. However, this time we do have a record in the bag… almost!
Last November, at long last, we started recording at ACME Estudios with Miguel Herrero. Then Danny and me hit the road for an Italy tour with with Willie Nile (with Johnny Pisano on bass).
Halfway through the tour in Grosseto, the engine of our trusty Volkswagen Transporter decided that 548,237 kilometres were enough, and broke down for good, silently, in the hotel’s parking lot.
The tour then turned into a whirlwind of rental cars and angry phone calls to the insurance company, which refused to bring the van back to Spain. We were saved by the hard work of our roadie Juanjo Zamorano (you should listen to his fine country-rock band The Pilgrim Rose) and the wonderful Silvia Leprai, promoter of the Grosseto show, which took care of everything for us. Grazie Silvia!
Once we recovered, we continued the recording on our own new recording studio, Satélite Estudios. We recorded a lot of instruments that we had never featured in our records: hurdy-gurdy and violin (with Héctor Braga); clarinet and flute (with Juan Flores); ukulele, tenor guitar… and more!
During the next few days we will be working again at ACME, recording horn sections and mixing the album with Miguel.
I’d love to tell you more about the record – there are a lot of surprises! And yes, the record is in the bag, but we might have more than one record. That’s all I’m saying now…
We are premiering the record live: May 8 in Avilés and May 9 in Oviedo. You can find all the info in our calendar.
