Here’s the latest report about the recording of the new album, which comes out in September. There are many news, and not only because of the folk-rock sounds.
During the last few years we have worked exclusively at Miguel Herrero’s fabulous ACME Studios in Asturias, a true paradise for lovers of the most authentic sounds, like us.
This time around, we’ve had the luxury of beginning the recording with the band playing live at ACME, and finish it leisurely at our own studio. It’s been more than 10 years since we worked at our studio, and we have really enjoyed it.
We have also taken one further step: The record is being mixed by Mike Stavrou (“Stav”), at his own studio in Australia.
Stav worked for 10 years as a Sound Balance Engineer at George Martin’s AIR Studios. His resumé is incredible, from David Bowie to Crowded House, or a Grammy for the James Bond movie “The Spy Who Loved Me”.
Mixing a record is an artistic process, where decisions are made about the instruments’ sound and place, that’s why it’s so important. It has nothing to do with mastering, which is a technical process that works on the general volume and equalization.
Stav really captured the personality of the band, and got the best sound we’ve ever had. In fact, his mixes are so good that we aren’t even bothering with mastering the record!
Working with him has been an incredible experience, even if it was only by phone and email. Wait, did you think we were lucky enough to take the trip to Australia? 😀
More news when September gets closer…
We’re working really hard at the studio! About the release date of the record, it’s a classic: “as soon as we can, when it’s ready”. 🙂
Here’s a summary of the story so far:
- We are about to release a double EP, with 6+6 songs. We will soon tell you why.
- A hint: the second EP is subtitled “A Folk-Rock Adventure”, and we are using a lot of instruments new to us.
- Last May we played two shows premiering some of the songs, and we put a out an advance single, with 3 songs, only available for those shows’ attendees.
- You can download for free one of the advance songs, “Talking In My Sleep“.
And some news: we are really happy to announce that the world-renowned, Grammy-winning folk instrumentist Kepa Junkera is playing a small guest part on our album, playing trikitixa on one of the songs that we are still finishing.
We have a small tour in October, with confirmed dates for Gijón, Barcelona and Madrid already.
Till then… let’s work!
